

Geneva was born on July 4, 1931, in Athens, Alabama, to Leroy and Emma Malone. She later relocated to Rockford, Illinois, where she graduated from Rockford East High School, Class of 1947. Shortly after graduation, she married Johnie Leroy Bryant, Sr.
In 1967, Geneva entered the workforce as a Mail Clerk with the United States Post Office, where she faithfully served until her retirement in 1995. Following retirement, she devoted her time to her family, church, and traveling.
In 1970, Geneva married James Anthony, who preceded her in death in 1992. In the early 2000s, she later married William Pope, who also preceded her in death.
Geneva was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church from its inception and was a Founding and Charter Member. She served diligently in many ministries, including the Mother’s Board, Sanctuary Choir, Sunday School, Usher Ministry, Announcer’s Guild, and as a Baptist General Conference Delegate. Geneva was known for her unwavering faith, compassionate spirit, courage, and countless acts of kindness extended to family, friends, and all she encountered.
Geneva leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving sons, Norman (Lillian) Bryant and Michael Bryant; 21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Emma Malone; stepfather, James Morris; husbands, Johnie Leroy Bryant, Sr., James Anthony, and William Pope; children, Johnie Bryant, Jr., Joyce Ann Bryant, and Charlene Wilson; and granddaughter, Tera Bryant.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Providence Baptist Church, 2209 Clifton Avenue, Rockford, Illinois 61102. Flowers may be sent to Providence Baptist Church.
