

George L. Vanderhei, Sr., 92, of Rockford, passed away on June 9 at his home. Born on March 9 in Chicago, he was the son of George and Emily (Kastilahn) Vanderhei. He married Kathleen Weber on June 1, 1974 in Kenosha, WI.
He retired from Hatfield Electric Company in 1996 after climbing the ladder of success becoming the Executive Vice President of the company.
George was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, IBEW, Phantom Regiment Booster Club, and The Purple Knights. In his youth he was an Eagle Scout moving on to become the Assistant Scout Master for Troupe 88. He also taught Computer Technology to the Kindergarten Class at St. Edwards Catholic School.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathleen Vanderhei; children, Patricia Stickles, Barbara Woodman, George Vanderhei, Jr., Laurie (Mike) Banta, Trisha Bain, Peter Weber, and David (Traci) Weber; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and one sister, Carol (Glenn) Reinhardt.
He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Teresa Montgomery; a sister, and a brother.
Funeral service, 10 a.m., Saturday, June 15, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park. Visitation, 8 a.m. to time of service. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
