Joseph Chastain, Jr., 94, of Loves Park, IL, passed away peacefully, Wednesday afternoon, October 13, 2021 at his home. He was born February 7, 1927 in Chevy Chase, Maryland, the son of Joseph and Alta (Wilson) Chastain, but was raised in Clever, Missouri. Joe served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married his first wife, Patricia, who preceded him in 1999. Joe married Vivian Banton on June 24, 2000. He worked as a mechanic at Marden Distributors for over 40 years. Joe was a very faithful man who served as a Pastor for over 40 years at various congregations. He loved reading the Good Word of the Bible. Joe had the mind of an engineer and could fix anything.
Joe is loved and missed by his grandson, Paul Chastain; siblings, Don (Florence) Chastain, Carol Hillis, Thelma Bates and Mary Gilmore; step-children, Bill (Cheryl) Bargman, Bobby (Genny) Bargman, Tim (Suzette) Bargman, Linda Bargman, Mary (Duane) Hall, and Marla (Wade) Fields; several step-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, both his wives, Patricia Chastain and Vivian Chastain, son Jim Chastain; step-daughters, Barb Krommueller, Deb Hillis and several siblings.
A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a funeral service to begin at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Gary Fuhrer officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
