Lonnie F. Moore, 93, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Javon Bea Hospital. Lonnie was born to Arthur and Goldie Moore on September 17, 1931, in Nimmons, Arkansas. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honored as a Purple Heart recipient in the Korean War. On July 24, 1955, he married the love of his life Shirley Ann Brooks in Hernando, Mississippi.
He enjoyed traveling as much as possible, especially with Shirley by his side. He also loved a good meal, especially if it was southern cooking. On Friday nights, he looked forward to going out for a meal. Lonnie was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and loved cheering them on when they were winning. He liked playing sports including bowling, pool, softball with church friends, and golf on the local courses. Lonnie always waited for spring and summer time because of sports, but also because it meant it was time to pay special attention to his gardens. Above all else, Lonnie was a man of his faith. He was a member of Halsted Road Baptist Church for over 50 years.
He is survived by his son, Larry (Beverly) Moore; grandchildren, Allison (Josiah) Vander Heyden and Patrick Moore; great-grandchildren, Desmond Vander Heyden and Lane Vander Heyden; nieces, Karen Allen and Diane Gassett; nephews, Roger Moore and David Moore.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Shirley; parents, Arthur and Goldie; siblings, Ancel (Kathleen) Moore, Norris (Shirley) Moore, and Lloyd Moore.
