Lyle D. Davis

Lyle Darrold Davis, 83, of Rockford passed away Monday, September 6, 2010 at Park Strathmoor Nursing Home. He was born March 3, 1927 in Rockford, IL the son of Lewis and Florence (Avery) Davis. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. He was a member of the Rockford Barber Shop Chorus and the Woodward and Sundstrand Rifle Teams. Lyle worked at Woodward 6 years, Sundstrand 27 years and then worked at Iroch 18 months. He enjoyed collecting cars, steam shows, and fixing machines. Lyle married Jeanne Martin on June 18, 1952. Survivors include his wife and children, Steven Davis, Lisa Taber, Merrianne (Wesley) McLean, Joyce (Ronald) Pearson, Suzanne (Steven) Podewils, Lynne (Stelios) Fakiroglou, grandchildren, Harold Taber III, Shaun (Michelle) Taber, Michael Taber, Melanie (Ralph) Fetterly, Donna (Jamie) Ketchum, Karly (Chris) Kramer, Vincent McLean, LaShaunna, Tatiana, Christopher and Hannah Pearson, Erin (Joe) Gettler , Kyle Podewils, and Chaney (Dan) Podewils, great- grandchildren, Nicholas and Megan Taber, Veronica McLean, and TyAsia Gordon, half brother Clyde (Virginia) Avery. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Lloyd Davis and grandson Karl Podewils. Services will be 3:00 pm Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine, Machesney Park, IL 61115. Visitation will be 2-3pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
