I'm so sad to have stumbled upon this obituary today. Nick and I grew to be friends at Flinn. And I lived two houses down next to the Dawsons. I cant believe this. You were on my mind today and searched for you. Only to find that you're no longer here. A friend for a short time but a friend forever. Rest peacefully Nicky.

I am SO sorry for your loss!  What great memories I have of my sons, Nick, and the rest of the neighborhood boys playing football, basketball, etc.

We appreciate everyone's support during this tragic time. And have appreciated everyone's memories they have shared on Facebook. Nicklaus was a caring, charming, extraordinary young man and will leave a hole in the hearts of many. Thank you everyone for your condolences.

It was always fun going into fast mart when he worked there music jamming and he had a bust of energy greeting people and those he knew he would bring out his goofy energetic self. My best memory of him was working there and him and Adam worked the same shift and they were being goofy as ever listening to some music talking about when the next time beer pong was going to happen, I still can't believe he is gone. My condolences to his family, he was one of a kind. He will be missed.  

My deepest condolences to Amy and family.  May God wrap his arms around you and comfort you during this difficult time.

My best memory with Nick was a few days before he left for basic training in the national guard. It was Nick and I and as well as Lucas, Sabin, Angel and Will. And we were all hanging out in downtown Rockford.  We were out all night having a good time trying to get the best out of our time before he had to leave.  When the night was over we stopped at the riverfront and watched the sun rise. He put his arm over my shoulder and said, you know Anthony you're my best friend and I love you bro and I'm gonna miss you while I'm gone. It was a perfect night.  And I'll never forget it for the rest of my life.

Nicklaus is survived by his mother Amy Sowl; father Leroy Sowl; sister Alexandria Sowl; brother Christopher Pearson; sister Kyza Cooper-Sowl; grandparents Donald (Cheryl) Sowl II; great-grandmother “Babe” Sowl-Stonewall; uncle Brad Guetzke; aunts Louise (Roger) Collins and Deanna (Steve) Ottens; special friend and nephew Skylar Cooper; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Nicklaus was preceded in death by his grandparents Mitchell and Katherine Guetzke and uncle Donald Sowl III.
