Oral Staman

Oral L Staman, 84, died peacefully on September 18, 2025. Oral was born August 22, 1941, to Joe and Hazel (Colloton) Staman in Rockford, IL. On July 31, 1965, he married (Marilyn) Diane Eskew. Oral and Diane had four wonderful children, Cam (Tiffany), Holly, Jon, and Kristin (Kelley) Hammons. They were blessed with eight grandchildren, Taylor, Payton, Graham, Hannah, Garrett, Hailey, Drew, and Ryan.

Oral attended Lincoln Christian College and was commissioned to become a pastor. Sometime later, he became a State Farm Insurance agent and enjoyed much success for more than 41 years. What he enjoyed most was horses, and he was a top competitor in the National Cutting Horse Association for many years, traveling all over the country to compete and making many valued friendships along the way.

Oral’s lifelong faith was essential in his life. He grew up attending Central Christian Church in Rockford, and then attended Harlem Road Christian Church, where he and Diane raised their family. In his later years, he attended Caledonia Congregational Church in Caledonia and Greenwood Baptist Church in Texas. Oral was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jon. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by his siblings, Sue (Short), Steve and Dave Staman. He leaves many memories of life on the family farm and friendship with so many.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 1pm until the time of the Celebration of Life at 2pm at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115). The celebration of life will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/SunsetFuneralHomeIL. Cremation will take place, and Oral will be laid to rest at Sunset at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be made to Rockford Rescue Mission (715 West State Street, Rockford, IL, 61102). The family would like to extend a special thank you to Community Hospice of Texas for the loving care they provided for Oral.
