

Born August 12, 1931 in Pecatonica, Illinois to Evans W. Meyer and Esther M. (Nulty). Paul lived in Loves Park, Illinois through his high school years. He entered the United States Marine Corps, serving until 1954 when he then married Shirl R. Nelson and raised their family in Loves Park. He learned the welding trade where he taught basic and advanced welding. Started his own successful tool & die welding business (PM Welding) together with his wife, retiring in 1997.
Paul was a member of the American Legion Post 60, YMCA Retired Men’s Club, Life Member of the Marine Corps League and Honor Guard. Among his many hobbies, he especially enjoyed performing with several singing groups and the Senior Follies.
Survived by wife, Shirl; daughters, Beth (Larry) Wegner, Dawn (Joe) Conner; grandchildren, Ann (Mike) Rayborn, Chris (Jenn) Conner; great-grandchildren, Kirstyn, Kayla, Trevor, Cali, Bryce; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; brothers, Thomas Meyer, Robert Meyer; nephew Tom Meyer.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park, IL, with visitation from 12:00 - 1:00.
