Ralph (Rafael) Toro, 90, of Rockford, IL passed away October 19, 2021, surrounded by loving family. He was born in New York, NY on January 1, 1931. Ralph graduated from Haaren High School, New York, and completed advance studies in Aviation. He was a Korean War Veteran, Serving in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 as an airplane mechanic. He retired from Sundstrand Corporation in 1990 as a Quality Control Engineer after 35 years of service. One of his greatest passions was woodworking. He made toys and beautiful furniture putting great skill and love in all that he made.
Ralph is survived by his son: Ralph James (Rebecca) Toro of Rockford, IL; daughters: Diana (Louis) Martinez of Mt. Juliet, TN and Donna (Thomas) Hayes of Westbrook, CT; grandchildren: Andrea (Mark) Belmont of Antioch, IL, Jim (Tammy) Chester of Springfield, IL and Abriel (Nickey) Garcia of Gladeville, TN; five great-grandchildren; sister: Margaret (Frank) Atkins of San Bernardine, CA; sister-in-law: Nancy (Mike) Kalapp of Seminole, FL; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Norma Jean Toro; brothers: James and Albert Toro and his parents.
A memorial service to celebrate Ralph's life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Saturday November 6th, 2021 at 12:00 PM with Dr. Mike Kalapp officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the service.
The family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the OSF Hospice Team for their loving and compassionate care given to Ralph during his final days. Special thanks to nurse Angie, CNA Minerva, Chaplin Darren, and to Liaison Care Coordinator Rachel; US Army Veteran Ken and Air Force Veteran Gene for the very special and memorable Military Honor Ceremony bestowed on Ralph prior to his passing. We are forever grateful.
