Ricky Flynn Conkling

Ricky Flynn Conkling, age 72, of Freeport, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. Ricky was born in Rockford, IL on December 23, 1950 to William Arthur Conkling Jr. and Velma Kathryn (Walton-Conkling) Bessert. In 1968 Rick graduated from Auburn High School. After High School Rick served in the United States Army. Rick was a driver for UPS for 35 years without an accident. He traveled nightly from Freeport to Chicago. Rick loved music and was an excellent guitarist. He performed during high school at many events with the band called The Jacemen, who were together for four years. They released a 45 RPM Record with the hit song, "Don't Take it Out on Me". Ricky is survived by his sons, Mark W. Conkling and Brian A. Conkling; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, William (Mary) Conkling III, Paula (Marty) McNally, Corynne (Kirk) Gille and Ann (Jason) Holub; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Conkling Jr. and Velma (Walton-Conkling) Bessert and his grandparents. A Visitation for Ricky will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 4pm until a Time of Sharing for family and friends at 6pm at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115). The Time of Sharing will conclude at 7pm. Committal Services will be Private at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the family.
