Ruby was born on November 23, 1927 in Greenwood, MS, the daughter of Andrew and Annie Miller. She married Robert Knight and he preceded her in death. Ruby worked for Winnebago County as a Correctional Officer, retiring November 30, 1986.
Ruby is survived by her sister Dorothy Simmons; children: Nathaniel Jackson, Laura K. Stanley, Shirley O. Hairston and Herbert T. Sherrell, Jr.; 18 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, family and friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Jessie L. Schultz, son Anthony Sherrell, grandson Charles Schultz, two sisters Mamie Thompson and Odessa Johnson.
Homegoing services for Ruby will be 11:00 a.m. Friday September 25, 2015 at Providence Missionary Baptist Church 2209 Clifton Ave in Rockford, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Sunset Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
