We are sad to announce that we had to say goodbye to Sandra “Sandy” Supinger of Rockford, Illinois. Sandy was born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 24, 1937 and went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Robert “Bob” Supinger, her parents, Sally Lovell Bush and Alexander Bush and her brother Lovell Alexander Bush.
She is survived by her sons, J.T. Harvey, Kevin (Becky) Harvey and daughter Lynne (Wes) Johnson; grandchildren, Kristin Harvey (Mark) Leininger, Heather (Kenneth) Wright, Trey Harvey, Graham Harvey, Brian (Amanda) Harvey, Zachary (Rose) Johnson and Alexander (Courtney) Johnson. Sandy had 12 great-grandchildren who lit up her life when they came to visit. Sandy also cherished her Maltese, Tally.
Sandy spent time as an editor for the Forest Park News, in Forest Park, Ohio. She also worked for G.E. in Cincinnati, Ohio. While living in Jackson, Mississippi, Sandy worked at River Oaks Hospital, as a charter employee, as Director of Patient Services. In this position, she supervised and grew the Patient Services Department, Junior Volunteer Department and started a Volunteer Chaplain Program.
Sandy was full of beauty. While in Jackson, MS, she and Bob spent a great deal of time with friends on their boat, “The Beach Bunny.” They had a second boat in Biloxi, MS, where they went to get away on the weekends. She loved the water and the beach.
In Illinois, Sandy along with Bob were involved in a model train group- Rock River Valley Division of NMRA that met weekly for breakfast. The women of the group met monthly to do crafts. Sandy enjoyed attending train seminars and conferences. She loved knitting and playing cards and enjoyed getting together with friends in these groups. About 10 years ago, she started traveling to Las Vegas which started her love of “slotting.”
A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a service to begin at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Allan Buss officiating. Private burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, in loving memory of Sandra Supinger.
