Walt was born in Rockford on July 11, 1941 to Russell K. Potter and Marguerite O. (Williams) Potter. He was an avid dog lover, loved fishing with his brother Ron, reading and playing cards with his friends at the coffee shop.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Wiedeman Potter; brother, Ron Potter; daughter, Sue (Tom) Chaney; grandson, Allen Chaney; granddaughter, Jessica Mitchell; great-grandchildren, McKenna and McKayla. Predeceased in death by his parents.
Due to the current pandemic, there will be no memorial service but instead there will be a walk-through visitation on Friday, April 3rd from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N.
