Annette Moore Strohbehn passed on to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 4, 2018. Annette was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Emily Corley Moore and Ernest Campbell Moore on January 3, 1928. She attended Miller High School for Girls and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in home economics. She was married to J. Rene’ Hawkins until his death in 1971. She was very active in the Girl Scouts for twenty years, serving as Girl Scout leader, Middle Georgia Girl Scout president for four years, and receiving the highest volunteer recognition in Girl Scouting, the Thanks Badge.
Annette was a member of First Baptist Church, Ingleside Baptist Church and Highland Hills Baptist Church, serving in many capacities. She was Vacation Bible School Director, WMU Director, Sunday School teacher and Altar Committee member, and served in many other areas.
Annette was a fifty year member and past president of P.E.O. Chapter 1 (a philanthropic educational organization), member and past president of Macon Exchangette Club and a member of the Shirley Hills Garden Club and the Milledgeville Garden Club. She was a dedicated and hard working member and active leader of any organization in which she was involved.
Annette was crowned Mrs. Macon in 1965, through the Atlanta Gas Light Miss America program.
Annette was married to Douglas William Strohbehn from 1974 until his death in 2003. They moved to their Lake Sinclair home in Milledgeville in 1989, where they became active members of Northside Baptist Church, where she again served in many capacities. She also was a dedicated volunteer at Crossroads Pregnancy Center.
Annette was known for her beautiful smile, outgoing and energetic personality, gracious hospitality and love for her Lord, her family and many friends.
Annette was predeceased by her brother, Ernest Campbell Moore, Jr., and her grandson, David Benjamin Hawkins. She is survived by her son, John Rene’ (Jay) Hawkins, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, and her daughter Corley Hawkins Gilpin and her husband Larry; Doug’s daughter Sandra Strohbehn Blake and her husband Steve; grandchildren John (Jason) Rene’ Hawkins III (Allison), Emily Katherine Gilpin and Lauren Elisabeth Gilpin; Jennifer Blake Chambers (Jeff) and Knoxie Blake Roche (Tim); great grandsons, Benjamin Hudson Hawkins and Patton Emory Hawkins; Jack Chambers, Tommy Chambers and Drew Chambers, and Caroline Roche, Billy Roche and Patrick Roche.
Services will be held on Monday, May 7 at 2:00 PM at Northside Baptist Church, 1001 North Jefferson Street NE, Milledgeville. Dr. Jerry Pickard officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at the church. A graveside ceremony will be held at Macon Memorial Park at 4:30 PM and the family will be available for visitation following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northside Baptist Church Building Fund, 1001 North Jefferson Street NE, Milledgeville 31061.
