

MACON – Bessie R. Curtis, 86, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Rayford Johnson will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 -8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home and may be contacted at the residence of Michele Harris.
Mrs. Curtis, wife of the late Elmer Curtis, was born in Tate, GA the daughter of the late John D. and Madora Norton Russell. She was a devoted homemaker and a member of Pine Forest Baptist Church. Mrs. Curtis was the mother of the late Gary Wayne Curtis.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley A. Smith of Macon; her grandchildren, Michele Smith Harris, Hannah Avery and Russell Curtis, all of Macon; two great grandchildren, Ashton Harris and Aubrie Harris of Macon; her sister, Ruby Wilkie of Jasper, GA; a number of nieces and nephews and her faithful companions, Blackie and Simore.
