Brooks Powell, age 91, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023 in Macon, Georgia. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with a small memorial service being held in Macon on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the dining hall of Magnolia Manor. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The Northside Alcoholics Benevolent Association, (NABA), 1809 Briarwood Road, NE, Atlanta 30329 or Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church, 3142 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084. The family wishes to thank the staff at Pinegate Senior Living and Magnolia Manor Assisted Living. Of note, his personal care givers, Mary Edith, Shaneise, Johnaca, Meko, Debbie, Vivian, Brenda, Catherine, and Jack gave him a high degree of care and patience.
Mr. Powell was born in Decatur, Georgia the son of the late Dorothy Brooks Powell and Robert G. Powell. He attended Decatur City schools and graduated from Decatur Boys High in 1949. Mr. Powell was a graduate of Georgia Tech in the School of Architecture. He was active in Delta Sigma Phi and met his future wife, Margie Massey on a blind date at a mixer. Mr. Powell worked for various Atlanta architectual firms and contributed his talents to university buildings in Athens and Statesboro in the 1960's. He served on the Administrative Board of Lawrenceville United Methodist Church and worked tirelessly with men in recovery.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Margie Massey Powell; children, Connie Sealy of Macon, Nancy Powell of Macon and Stephen Sengupta (Inu) of Woodstock, GA; 2 grandchildren, Parker Sealy (Ang) and Erin Sealy; siblings, Dorothy Laycock and Doug Head; several nieces and nephews.
Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
