

NEWPORT NEWS - Charles Harrison Hubbard, Colonel USAF Ret., died Monday, September 18, 2017 in Hampton, VA at the age of 94. Born in Macon, GA on July 23,1923, he was the son of Robert Harrison Hubbard and Emma Lula Norris Hubbard. On December 1, 1951, he married Doris Price of Warner Robins, GA. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton, VA and a former member of First Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA.
He is survived by his son, Charles H. Hubbard Jr., of Charlottesville, VA; his daughter and son-in-law, Kristen Hubbard Ogden and Louis Ogden of North Prince George, VA; his sister and brother-in-law Monie Hubbard Koester and Fred Koester of Macon, GA; sister-in-law Maria Victoria Forrest of Fort Myers, FL; sister-in-law Gloria Price Steffen of Greenville, OH; sister-in-law Libby Price of Warner Robins, GA; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special family friend Joyce Strongs of Newport News, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris Price Hubbard, brother Robert B. Forrest, and sister Sheila Forrest Flaherty.
Col. Hubbard graduated from Lanier High School for Boys in Macon, GA in 1941, having attained the rank of Captain in the JROTC. He went on to Mercer University in Macon and was a student there when he entered the Aviation Cadet Program. He completed the program, received his wings as a U. S. Army Air Corps pilot, and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant at Craig Field, Selma, AL. From there he served in various places around the world, taking his wife and children with him when possible. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother who always put his family first. Col. Hubbard retired from the USAF on November 30, 1976.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA. A funeral service will then be held immediately afterwards at 3 p.m., also at Peninsula Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors on Friday, September 29, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at Snow's Memorial Chapel, 3077 Pio Nono Avenue, Macon, GA. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Macon, GA. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
