Born on August 25, 1946, in Clayton, Georgia, Dean was the beloved son of Eldon C. Owens and Clara Nix Owens. A proud graduate of Rabun County High School, Class of 1965, and Southern Technical College of Atlanta, Dean went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Dean dedicated 39 years of service to Georgia Power, retiring in 2005. He attended Vineville Baptist Church, where he found community and spiritual fulfillment. A passionate golfer, Dean cherished the friendships he made on and off the course. His warmth, humor, and quiet strength touched the lives of many.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Annette Sale Owens; his children, Tracy Owens Vinson (Trent) and Josh Sale (Marie); grandchildren, Harrison Sale and Stephen Leach; brother, Laland Owens (Cheryl); and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, James Lamar Owens, Lewis Eldon Owens, and Sherry Renee Owens; his sister, Wanda Owens Reed and brother-in-law, Ray Reed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Snow’s Memorial Chapel on Bass Road, with Rev. Greg Pope officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
Dean will be dearly missed and forever remembered with love.
