

George Daniel Head, Jr., 97, passed away January 10, 2015. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2015 at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Lanning officiating. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, 3077 Pio Nono Avenue, Macon, GA 31206..
Mr. Head, son of the late George D. Head, Sr. and Julia Curry Head, was born in Jackson, GA. He was a graduate of Jackson High School and Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. He served with the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II. Mr. Head was employed by H. L. Green Co. for twenty-three years, then opened his store, Head’s 5 Cent to 1 Dollar Store which he owned and operated for thirty-four years. He became well known in his Macon community for his kind business practices. He was married to his late wife, Audrey Belle Jernigan of Montgomery, Alabama for fifty-four years and because of their love of square dancing, they danced and taught square dancing for thirty-two years. He also served as an officer of several square dancing clubs.
Mr. Head was a member of the Macon Optimist Club for sixteen years and was involved in many fund-raising events. He was a member of Ingleside United Methodist Church since 1981. He married his late wife Gail Thayer in 1996 and they enjoyed living life on Lake Tobesofkee before moving to Carlyle Place in 2006.
Survivors include his daughters, Donna Westmoreland, Canton, GA and Brenda Heinig of Reston, VA; granddaughter, Elisa Vullo Blythe; grandson, Phillip S. Vullo, II and great grandchildren, Evan William Blythe and Olivia Francesca Blythe. His granddaughter, Alexa Jean Long and his brother, Stewart Head preceded him in death.
