Gladys Fry DuMond, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 29, 2021. A Celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Antonie Walker and the Rev. John Irwin officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Ave., Macon GA 31204.
Gladys was born in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Milo and Bernice Schondelmayer Fry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee DuMond and sister, Alice Spangenberg.
She graduated from Creston High School and Grand Rapids Junior College where she met her future husband. She married Robert Lee DuMond on August 27, 1949. She held several secretarial positions before having children. They lived in Michigan until 1965 when they moved to Crown Point, Indiana and then to Macon in 1974. She spent much of her life doing volunteer work for their churches and other volunteer organizations. Her work in Macon included sixteen years as Secretary/Administrative Assistant at Riverside United Methodist Church. After retiring, she was active in serving in the Shut In Ministry at Riverside. She also made quilts for the Linus ministry and The Methodist Home and knitted many hats for the Neonatal Unit of the hospital and other groups.
She is survived by her family, son, Michael (Becky) DuMond of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Elaine Clarke of Macon; grandson, Andrew Clarke; granddaughter, Emilie Clarke (Joseph) Arnold of Atlanta; great granddaughter, Sophia Clarke and great grandson, Calvin Clarke both of Macon; sisters-in-law, Marion Denison and Carolyn (Bob) Laird and their families in Kalamazoo, MI. Also included in the family are Warner tenKate and Francien deGroot and their children, Saskia and Casper tenKate and their families of the Netherlands. Warner joined our family in 1968 as an exchange student.
