MACON – Jack Robert Harbin, 81, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010 following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Vineville Baptist Church with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Madison Street Gate. The Rev. Tripp Martin and the Rev. Fred Anderson will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue and asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204 or to Gideon’s International West Camp, P. O. Box 5718, Macon 31208.
Mr. Harbin, son of the late Dewey Lee and Elva Mae James Harbin, was born in Detroit, MI and had lived in Macon most of his life. He attended Lanier High School and served in the U. S. Navy. Mr. Harbin had been employed by Delta Tank Co. and was formerly a Revenue Officer for the Georgia Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. He served as a Deputy Sheriff with Bibb County Civil Court retiring after thirty-eight years of service.
Mr. Harbin loved the Lord and never missed an opportunity to share the Gospel. He was a member of Vineville Baptist Church and was a former member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Gideon’s International and Bibb County Jail Ministry. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy and Charles Harbin.
Survivors include his family to whom he was devoted, his wife of forty-seven years, LuReese Gibson Harbin of Macon; his children, Clint (Julie) Harbin and Dana (Mike) Pettis all of Macon, and Rev. Lon (April) Harbin of Cartersville; six precious grandchildren, Jacob and Isabella Harbin, Reese and Claire Harbin and Hunter and Holli Pettis; sisters-in-law, Shirley Harbin of Cochran and Marsha Skiles of Canton; several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank two special caregivers, Fannie Pettigrew and Patsy Woodford as well as the Nursing Staff of 5 East at Coliseum Medical Center and at Peake Nursing Facility.
