

ATHENS – James A. Gordon, Jr., of Macon, Georgia departed this life on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the age of 84. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Friday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday at Bloomfield United Methodist Church with interment in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Cile Mitchell and Mr. Tommy Smith will officiate.
Mr. Gordon was born in Macon on April 14, 1927 to the late Nora Lee Tillman Gordon and the late James Aubry Gordon. He was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School where he played saxophone in the band. Mr. Gordon served his country in the U. S. Navy during WW II and the Korean War. He was an active member of Bloomfield United Methodist Church and choir member for fifty years. Mr. Gordon was a well known and respected area business man, owning and operating his own land surveying company, James Gordon Land Surveying. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Gordon delighted in his family and was a proud and loving “Papa” to his grandsons.
Survivors include his devoted wife of fifty-six years, Lillian King Gordon; daughter, Beverly Veale (Scott) of Athens; son, James “Jimmy” A. Gordon, III (Valerie) of Douglasville; grandchildren, Ethan Gordon and Aaron Gordon of Douglasville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5511 Bloomfield Road, Macon, GA 31206.
