John Houston McSween, 74, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 10, 2021. A Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at North Macon Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be Friday, August 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Greenwood Cemetery, Knoxville Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Macon Presbyterian Church, 5707 Rivoli Drive, Macon GA 31210.
John was born in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late John Arnold and Alice Houston Karnes McSween. He graduated from Central High School, class of 1965 in Knoxville, and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a BBA and MBA. John had a forty year career in banking in North and Central Georgia with the Citizens and Southern National Bank (Bank of America) and Colonial Bank. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rome, where he served as a Deacon, and was a member of North Macon Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. John was a member of the Chamber of Commerce where he served as chairman in both Macon and Rome. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his four grandchildren and his church family, gardening, golfing, reading and watching Tennessee Volunteers football. John was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Beth McSween, son, John McSween of Alpharetta, daughter, Elizabeth (Doug) Jury of Atlanta, grandchildren, Caroline McSween of Milledgeville, Thomas Jury of Atlanta, Mary Jury of Atlanta and Kadyn McSween of Alpharetta, sister, Elizabeth “Booty” (Richard) Lockhart of Knoxville, TN.
