

Joyce Hopkins Harper, 77, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Vineville United Methodist Church. Burial will be private for family only in Riverside Cemetery, North Gate. Dr. Billy Oliver will officiate. The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service Friday in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Vineville United Methodist Church, 2045 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204 or the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon 31204.
Mrs. Harper was born in Wilkes County, Georgia and had lived in Macon for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Lois Anderson Hopkins and C. W. Hopkins and the widow of Dr. H. Wilbur Harper, Jr. Mrs. Harper was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Idle Hour Country Club, and the Bibb County Medical Society Alliance. Her daughter, Lois Ann Harper, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Harper lived for her children and grandchildren and would have done anything and everything for them during her lifetime. She enjoyed working in the office at Vineville United Methodist Church, often telling stories that probably should not have been told at church.
Mrs. Harper is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, H. W. “Hal” Harper, III and Nan of Macon; daughters and son-in-law, Fran Harper Stapleton of Macon, Jan Harper Cox and Fred of Reno, Nevada; grandchildren, Wil Harper, Sam Harper, Jack Harper, Bart Stapleton and Andrew Stapleton; brothers, David Hopkins and Allen Hopkins both of Augusta; sisters, Nelda Reese of Augusta and Betty Deen of Thomaston, and longtime close friend, David Kempa.
