Larry Pope, 80, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel on Bass Road. A private graveside service will be held at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery, with Reverend Andy Oxford officiating.
Larry was born in Columbus, Georgia, to the late George Elmon Brown and Lillian Grant Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Pope.
A graduate of Lanier High School, Larry continued his education at the University of Georgia. He founded Sides and Pope Architectural Firm and later retired as an architect and partner with SP Design in Macon. He was a longtime member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and was respected in his profession for his integrity, attention to detail, and dedication to his clients.
Larry was deeply involved in his community. He served as both a coach and board member with West Macon Little League and Freedom Park Softball, and also helped coach softball at First Presbyterian Day School (FPD) and Mercer University. He was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and Mount Zion Baptist Church.
He had a remarkable gift for turning blank pages into meaningful designs, bringing dreams to life both big and small. His creativity, along with the trust others placed in him, brought him great fulfillment. He often said, “I have something no one can take away—I love my work and my clients,” and many of those clients became lifelong friends.
Above all, Larry was devoted to his family and friends and was known for his generous and giving heart. He found great joy in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and cherished the time spent sharing those traditions with his children and grandchildren. These moments created lasting memories that will be deeply treasured.
Larry is survived by his wife, Wanda Pope; his children, Elise Pope Shedd (Thomas), Chad Frazier (Sarah), Hank Moore (McKenzie), Monica Pope Evans (Todd), Ginny Moore Reeves (Rob), and Brad Thigpen (Lindsey). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wanda M. Pope Scholarship, GSC Foundation, 419 College Drive, Barnesville, Georgia 30204, or to the Middle Georgia State University Mary M. Pope Memorial Scholarship.
Snow’s Memorial Chapel at Bass Road has charge of arrangements.
