
Dr. Lewis was born January 25, 1943, in Camden, New Jersey to the late Harry Pease and Helen Scattergood Pease. She was the second child of eight born of the union. Dr. Lewis interned as a medical lab technician before devoting her attention to her education, ultimately securing two master's degrees and a doctorate in Sociology from the University of Arizona. She stayed on as a teacher for the University before coming to Macon, where she became a tenured professor. Dr. Lewis was preceded in death by two siblings: Harry Pease and Dolores Scheeler.
Dr. Lewis is survived by her daughters: Helen Loretta Vizard (Paul M.) and Christine Marie Marks; son: Eric Adam Marks (Jan Postore Ortega); grandson: Eric Alexander Marks; great-granddaughter: Elana A. Yaughn; sisters: Judy Hvezda, Catherine Schafer, Ann Pease and Ruth Jenkins; brother: John Pease.
