Rear Admiral Richard F. Donnelly, USN (Ret.), passed away on Monday, May 19, at Pine Pointe Hospice. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at Georgia Veterans Memorial Gardens in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Rear Admiral Richard F. Donnelly was born in Toronto, Canada on August 27, 1931 to Richard Sylvester Donnelly and Mary Grace Smith Donnelly. He was a graduate of Northwestern University where he was a participant in the Contract NROTC Program, receiving a commission in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
His major sea assignments include USS Evans, USS Tattnall, and USS Yosemite. He was Commander of Destroyer Escort Squadron EIGHT, Squadron FOURTEEN and Squadron SIX. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia “Pat” Donnelly of Macon; his son, Richard Emerson (Tanya) Donnelly of San Diego, CA. and daughter, Caprice (Dirk) Montgomery of Tampa, FL; and grandchildren, Amanda and Ryan Montgomery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, 31210 or donor’s choice.
