Culloden, GA – Bob King, 74, passed away July 26, 2016. Funeral services will be at the Culloden United Methodist Church at 11 AM Saturday, July 30 with Pastor Arinna Eberly officiating. Friends and family will gather for a celebration of Bob’s life following the memorial service.
Bob was born in Manistee, Michigan to William and Doris King and was brother to Corinne Marsh and Karen King.
In his youth, Bob was a happy het lackluster student whose teachers would be surprised to learn that he loved to read and dedicated over 25 years to area colleges. He was proud to be Director of Facilities at the Macon Coliseum, Tift, Gordon, and Wesleyan Colleges where he used his talent and building skills to teach others. The homes and structures he designed, build and renovated from Michigan to Culloden, including those at college campuses that we see today, are evidence of his talent. However, the lasting relationships with people made him the proudest.
He was an encourager who brought out the best in others. He always kept a song in his heart and a twinkle in his eyes even in the face of challenges.
Bob’s gift for music warmed hearts at his son’s wedding, through his prison ministry, Emmaus, friends’ retirements, and at church. Certainly Bob will also be remembered for his sense of humor and storytelling. You could be sure 50% of every story was true. You just never knew which half.
Bob loved to golf and fish, loathed most vegetables and reveled in making those around him laugh. Diet Coke, something sweet, dreaming of classic convertibles, and time with Bettye made his day complete.
His legacy is found in the hearts and memories of those he loved and those who loved this gentle giant.
Among those who loved his wife of nearly 22 years, Bettye King and his children Deborah King, Kim Tomlinson, Mary David, Robert “Bob” King, Randy “Luke” King, Michael Williford, and Beth Williford. He will be missed by Carole King, 11 delightful grandchildren, his gold buddies (remember his hole-in-one?), and many friends.
