Shirley Jean Stewart Fountain of Macon, GA passed from this earthly life Tuesday, May, 9, 2018 following a lengthy illness. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono with burial in Macon Memorial Park. The Rev. Tim Long will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon, GA 31201.
Wife of the late James Fountain, she was born in Ellaville, GA September 20, 1937 to Eli Stewart and Louise Wilkes. Her family later moved to Hastings, FL where she received her college education. She entered the nursing program at the former Macon Hospital, later working as nurse to Dr. Bill Barton for many years. She became operating room nurse at the former Middle Georgia Hospital where she retired.
Mrs. Fountain was a life-time member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Auxiliary 714, holding the office of President of the State Ladies Organization one season. She was preceded in death by her son, Dale Fountain. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who was most happy spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Jon Fountain; granddaughters, Brooke Fountain of Macon, Megan Fountain (Josh) Jones of Jones County and April Haskins of Washington, DC; grandson, Michael (Julia) Fountain of California; two great grandsons; three great granddaughters; brothers, Ben (Nancy) Stewart and Sonny Stewart; sisters, Patricia (John) Colgrove and Linda (Mike) McDonald; several aunts, cousins, many loving friends including special friend, Gail Kirksey.
