

Fred was the eldest child of Max Otto and Frieda Weis Ruge. Born Max Freidrick on July 5, 1929 in Weingarden-Baden, Germany, he came to the United States as an infant and later became a citizen of the United States. He grew up in Richmond Hill, New York and was educated in the New York City school system.
Fred served in the US Army from January 1951 - December 1952 and was stationed overseas in West Germany. After being discharged from the Army, he married Anita Selma Abrahamsen of South Ozone Park (Queens), New York. Fred and Anita relocated to Madison, CT in 1953. He was employed by Pratt and Whitney for 38 years as an Experimental Sheet Metal Worker and retired in 1992. Fred was also proud to have been a member of the North Madison Volunteer Fire Department since 1961.
Fred is survived by his wife Anita of Madison, his four daughters and son-in-laws; Susan and Edward Weeks of Haddam, Gail and Steve Domin of West Suffield; Judith and Elliott Carpenter of Danbury; and Diane and Jack Hennessy of East Haddam; and one son and daughter-in-law Frederick and Jackie Ruge of Warden, WA as well as 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Fred was predeceased by his sister Elka Ruge Perez of Virginia and is survived by his youngest sister Linda R. Sibarium of New Haven.
Fred will be remembered by friends and family for his storytelling and sense of humor.
A memorial service celebrating Fred's life will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the North Madison, Congregational Church, 1271 Durham Road, Madison, CT.
