

He was born on January 4, 1922, in New Haven, the son of George and Eva Gilbert.
Dr. Gilbert served four years in the US Navy during World War II. He attended Kalamazoo College in Michigan and Dental College in Chicago. He practiced dentistry for over 40 years in New Haven. He was known to most people as "Captain" due to his many years of piloting his beloved wooden boat "The Albatross", a 1954 Maine lobster boat.
Dr. Gilbert was predeceased by his wife Martha and his daughter Joan Rufleth.
He is survived by his daughter Nancy Swiantek and her husband Steven of Madison; grandchildren Kirsten and Bradley Rufleth; two great grandchildren; son-in-law Dr. Peter Rufleth and his wife Candy of Centerville, MA.
A funeral service will be held on Friday April 10th at 10am at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Madison. Calling hours will be held on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service from 8am-10am. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT.
