Hertha C. O’Neill (Juli), 90, of Guilford CT, passed away on February 23, 2020. The wife of Daniel J. O’Neill, she was born on Jan 3, 1930 to the late Anna Hill (Danekis, Juli) and late Englebert Juli and was raised by her step-father Joseph Hill of New Hyde Park, NY. She graduated from Sewanhaka High School, Floral Park New York and received a BA from NY State University at New Paltz. She worked as a primary school educator in New Hyde Park and as a substitute teacher in the Three Village School district.
Hertha was an avid skier, gardener and enthusiast of colonial era crafts and antiques. She was especially fond of her family farm in Sharon, NY, which she frequented her entire life.
Her greatest passion, however, was always her family - she was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter and sister, and was fiercely proud of her children, their spouses and partners, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She constantly encouraged them to think and act big and become the best they could with her love and support. She kept the home in Stony Brook, NY open for her children’s friends to drop by and be part of her life.
Hertha is survived by her husband Daniel of Guilford CT, her children Daniel (RI), Anne Kolyer (MD), Douglas (NJ), Jane (VT), Patricia Ricks (NY) and Peggy Butler and her husband Tim (Madison, CT), their spouses and companions as well as 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Erna Finster (NY)
