

Maloney, Charles Edward II Age 91 Beloved husband of the late Mildred. Loving father of Kathy (Rod) Russell, Charles E. III (Kathleen), Peggy (Randy) Gmerick, John (Amy), Jean Maloney, Paula Bertrand, and Steve. Dear grandfather of eleven and great-grandfather of five. Visitation 3-8p.m. Monday at Edward Swanson and Son Funeral Home, 30351 Dequindre (S. of 13 Mi. Rd.), and Tuesday, 9:30a.m. until time of funeral mass 10:00a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 1087 E. Gardenia, Madison Heights, MI.
Charles E. Maloney, II was born in Springfield, IL on August 4, 1921. He was the oldest of four children of Charles E. Maloney Sr. and Anna Catherine Hallinan. He was preceded in death by his brother John James; and two sisters, Marie Claire (Williams) and Betty Ann (Corbett).
At an early age the children were placed in St. John’s Catholic Orphanage in 1928 until he graduated from the 8th grade in 1935. At that time he moved in with his maternal Great Aunt Marie in Springfield where he graduated from Feitshans High School on May 26, 1939. He received his Associate in Arts degree from Springfield Junior College on June 2, 1941.
In 1939 Charles received his pilots license and in 1942 enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a radio mechanic. After his honorable discharge he moved to Detroit, MI. In 1952 he received his law degree, (Juris Doctor) from the University of Detroit Law School.
Charles married Mildred Harriet Brady on June 19, 1954 in Detroit. Following many years of working for the St. Paul Insurance Co. and simultaneously practicing law, Charles opened up his own law practice in the mid to late 1960’s. Upon his retirement he had practiced law in good standing for over 52 years.
During his lifetime in Madison Heights, Charles Maloney was very active and involved in numerous civic and community associations as well as being a charter member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church since its inception in 1958.

Charles E. Maloney is survived by his seven children, and 11 grandchildren; Charles E. Maloney, IV, (Scooter); Kerry Kathleen Maloney, Justin Russell, Margaret Maloney, Madeline Russell, Stephanie Maloney, Samantha Bertrand, Megan Maloney, Colton Gmerick, Lauren Maloney and Hannah Maloney. Five great grandchildren – Isabel, Kylie, Emma, Emillie and Caden.
