William is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan; six sons: John (Sandra, dec.) Decker, Kevin (Deana) Decker, Michael (Amanda) Decker, William (Debra) Decker, Daniel (Elizabeth) Decker and Robert Decker; one daughter: Deborah (Brian) Schloff; sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; as well as his sister, Caroline (John) Czarnowski; and his brother, David (Roxanne) Decker. Further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Albert, Theodore, and Donald Decker; daughter, Beverly Sue Decker; and grandson, Jacob Decker.
William honorably served in the United States Navy from 1956-1960, during which he served in Antarctica and Australia. At the conclusion of his service, he worked at DeVlieg Machine Co. for 30 years, followed by 10 years at Ford Motor Company. After retirement, “Usher” Bill enjoyed his time working at Comerica Park and Joe Louis Arena for the Detroit Tigers and Stanley Cup Champions Detroit Red Wings.
Bill and Sue were avid cruisers, exploring new destinations and creating lasting memories with family and friends. Bill spent countless hours tending to his yard, creating a beautiful and welcoming space. He was bestowed the honor of the Oak Park Beautification Award two consecutive years.
Bill and Sue presided over the DeVlieg Retirees and Twenty-Five Year clubs for the last twenty years.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Edward Swanson & Son Funeral Home in Madison Heights, followed by a luncheon. Burial will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the funeral home.
