

Alfred Dewey Bryant, Jr., 76, of Madison Heights, VA, passed away, Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Heritage Green in Lynchburg, VA, after a long illness. He was the husband of 56 years to Eleanor Gottschall Bryant. Born March 22, 1936, in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Alfred Dewey Bryant, Sr. and the late Alice Riner Bryant.
Alfred attended the old Madison Heights High School and Phillips Business College. He retired from Wiley and Wilson and the Lynchburg City Schools. He was a member of Madison Heights Christian Church and recently attended Corner Stone Baptist Church of Naola. He was active in the over 50 Senior Softball team until a few months ago. He was a manager and coach of softball teams for over 30 years. He was interested in genealogy and worked on the Bryant Family History for over 20 years. He loved his antique cars and really enjoyed watching his grandchildren play ball.
In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by one brother, Clayton R. Bryant, Sr.
In addition to his wife, Alfred is survived by two sons, Alfred D. Bryant and his wife Tammy of Monroe and Brandon O. Bryant and his wife Krista of Madison Heights; one sister, Jean B. Springer of Naola; one uncle, Robert L. Riner and his wife Joyce of Madison Heights; and four grandchildren, Landon Bryant, Jarred Bryant, Sierra Bryant (C.C.) and Sydney Bryant; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Charles Stinson and Rev. Peyton Fitzgerald officiating. Special music by Smokey Wilson. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends, 3-5 p.m., Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.
