Brian "BJ" Joel Cash Sr.

Born on April 7, 1982, in Lynchburg, Virginia, BJ was the cherished son of Darrell G. Cash and Deborah J. Hartless, lovingly known as “Nanny Goat.” His faith was a steady presence throughout his life, and he was a devoted member of Clifford Baptist Church, where his love for God helped guide the way he lived and loved others.

BJ found peace and joy in the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or tending to his garden. He loved to cook and grill for the people he cared about and had a deep appreciation for “good” music—the classics, as he always said, not the new stuff. Above all, BJ loved his family fiercely, especially his boys, who were the pride of his heart. Nothing made him happier than watching his children play ball; he served as a dedicated board member of the Dixie Youth Baseball Association, cheering on every game with pride and encouragement.

He had a playful, gentle spirit and a way of showing love through laughter, teasing, and the nicknames he gave—each one a small reminder of how deeply he cared. His warmth, humor, and presence left a mark that will never fade.

BJ was preceded in death by William “Monk” Cash, Granny Barbara Ballowe, and Nancy “Nana” Hartless.

He is survived by his four children, Morgan “Rabbit” (Trevor “Taco bell”), Joel “Dinky Man,” Wyatt “Tootsie,” and Baby Cash; his sister, Jennifer “Frawg”; his niece, Eliza B; his surviving grandparent, Andrew “Action Jackson”; and the love of his life, Jessica “Baby Squirrel.” He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and beloved friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Clifford Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeffrey Campbell and Pastor Mike Fitzgerald officiating. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Burial will follow at the Cash Family Cemetery, 616 Dismal Mountain Road, Roseland, Virginia 22967.
