Doris Elder Freeman

Born in Emporia, she was the daughter of the late Evertt Elder and the late Mabel Price Elder. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Carroll Freeman and Ronald Freeman; two brothers, Rudolph Elder and Ronald Elder and one sister, Barbara E. Blake.

Doris was a long time and faithful member of Madison Heights Baptist Church and a former employee of the Retail Merchants Association. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge #22 of Madison Heights.

She is survived by one son, David E. Freeman of Madison Heights; three sisters, Margaret E. Wilkins and her husband, Claude, of Jonesboro, N.C., Shirley E. Musick and her husband, Wayne, of Abingdon and Patricia E. Horton and her husband, Marshall, of Savannah, GA; two daughters-in-law, Pat T. Freeman of St. Augustine, FL and Nancy B. Freeman of Lynchburg; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The family is deeply grateful for the loving care of the staff at Heritage Green Assisted Living Communities, particularly Heather, Alyssa, Sarah and LuLu, the staff at Genesis Rehab at Heritage Green, Monelison Family Physicians, Dr. David Haga and his staff, especially the beautiful “Granny” and the folks at Seven Hills Hospice. Special thanks, also, to Dr. Chi, Hospitalist at Lynchburg General, for his care, compassion and expertise and Beth Franklin, E.R. Supervisor for her kindness and professionalism. Carolyn Chilton was the daughter Doris never had and through her devotion and support she became a beloved member of our family. Many thanks to nephews Eddie Freeman and his wife, Sharon and Dale Freeman and his wife, Beth for their compassion, help and support and to the staff at Jackie’s Cut Hut – Jackie Fitzgerald and Joyce Scott - for their devotion to Doris.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2011, at Madison Heights Baptist Church by the Rev. Todd Blake and the Rev. Charles Stinson. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 9:45 to 11 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2011, at Madiosn Heights Baptist Church.
