

Born in Amherst County, May 26, 1938, he was a son of the late John Hannon Powell and Anna Virginia Evans Powell.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Teresa Fay Smith and her husband Tom of Madison; one son, D.H. Powell, Jr. and his wife Stacy of Forest; one brother, Maynard Powell and his wife Wanda of Madison Heights and four grandsons whom he loved very much, Stuart Smith, Philip Smith, Tripp Powell and Jackson Powell.
Mr. Powell was retired from the Lynchburg Foundry after 33 years of service. He was a longtime member of Sardis United Methodist Church where he served actively. He enjoyed cattle farming and his family, especially spending time with his four grandsons.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Shin Woo Hong officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
