Born in Terre Haut, Indiana, July 7, 1953 he was the son of the late Bobby Gene Archer and Iris Estelle Freeman Phelps. Floyd was a painter for 50 years, having worked for Beryl Phelps and retired from Central Virginia Training Center. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, canoeing and camping. He loved the Lord and was a member of Jordan Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edward Archer and wife Tara of Forest and Billy Archer of Madison Heights; one daughter, Laura Beth Archer of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Ronnie Archer and wife Goldie of Lynchburg and Chester Gene Archer and wife Regina of Madison Heights; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Meade Cemetery with Dr. Melvin H. Campbell officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
