

George Lee Coleman, Sr., 83, of Madison Heights, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Margaret Frances Linthicum Coleman.
Born September 8, 1927 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Howard Roosevelt and Hilda Barton Coleman Newcomb and was also preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Coleman; two brothers, Harold Coleman and Wayne Newcomb; one sister, Anne Young and his step-father, C.L. Newcomb. He was retired from the accounting office of Babcock & Wilcox, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Coleman was Past President and an Honorary Member of the Monelison Rescue Squad and a curent member of American Legion Post 274. He was a member of Amelon United Methodist Church.
Mr. Coleman is survived by three sons, G.L Coleman and wife, Dianne, Jimmy Coleman and wife, Valerie, and Ricky Coleman, all of Madison Heights; one sister, Phyllis Overstreet of North Carolina; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2011 at Amelon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Paulo Da Silva and the Rev. Charles Stinson officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 3-5 p.m. at Amelon United Methodist Church and other times at the residence.
