Geraldine “Gerry” Joyce Maberry West, 80, of Monroe, passed away, Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Southside Community Hospital in Farmville. She was the devoted wife of John David “J.D.” West for almost sixty-one years. They were married, February 3, 1961.
Born October 24, 1941, in Powhatan, WV, she was the daughter of the late Garland Ambrose Mayberry and Ethel Marie Harris Maberry and was also preceded in death by several siblings. She was a retired, self-employed hairdresser and was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, Gerry is survived by two sons, Charles D. West of Amherst and Stephen W. West of Monroe; one daughter, Michelle L. West, also of Monroe; a sister, Shirley M. Pelfrey of Lynchburg; a brother, Harold Maberry and wife Patsy of Madison Heights; two grandchildren, Stephen Michael “Mikey” West and Jessica Lynn West (Blake Padgett) and one great-granddaughter, Brinley Lynn Padgett.
A funeral service to celebrate Gerry’s life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with The Rev. Tim Scott of Luray, officiating. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Monday, January 24, 2022, at the funeral home.
