She was born in Lynchburg March 24, 1952 to the late Sparell Pawnee Brooks, Sr. and Ruth Callahan Brooks Hill. Iris proudly served in the US Merchant Marines where she traveled all over the world. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband Dennis W. White; one daughter, Stephanie Dawn Brooks Lautzenheiser and her husband Ernest of Kensington, OH; one son, Cecil David Wood, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Lynchburg; one brother, Buster Brooks; four grandchildren, Candice Russell, Christopher Wood, Jesse Dakota Goodwin and Alyssa Wood and one great grandchild, Curtis Wood.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Wood Goodwin and three sisters, Linda Brooks, Debra Brooks and Shelby Brooks.
A graveside service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Meade Cemetery.
