Born on December 1, 1928 in Pera, VA, he was the son of the late John William Brown and the late Rosa Henson Brown. James retired from Leighton Heel Shoes as a machine operator. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. James was a faithful member of Monroe Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Elmo Brown and sisters, Eva Mason, Evelyn Staton, and Frances Foster.
James is survived by his wife, Elma Lloyd Brown; sister-in-law, Mary Brown; numerous loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family would like to thank Seven Hills Home Health and Hospice for providing exceptional care during his illness and special thank you to his nurses and caregivers, his niece-Rosa Campbell, Alice Powell, Pam Walshaw and Bridget Alexander.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Whitten Monelison Chapel and also at other times at the residence and at other times at the residence.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor James Witten officiating. Interment will follow at Allwood Cemetery.
