Joanne Wright Compton

Joanne Wright Compton, 79, of Madison Heights passed away Monday, October 24, 2016, at the Hospice House in Lynchburg. She was the wife of the late Eugene Clarence Compton. Born January 17, 1937, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Leo Clarence Wright and the late Patricia Childress Wright.

Joanne was a retired employee for GE/Ericsson Company and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the Quilt and Chatter and Pep Club. Her biggest loves were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her son, Roger Eugene Compton.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Lynn Gordon of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Jeff Gordon and his wife Alicia and Suzy Moore; four great grandchildren, Jamie, Mackenzie, Lucas and Avery; and beloved friends, Norma Staples, Michelle Carter and Shirley Dearing.

A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2016, at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Dave Cash officiating.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of church of one’s choice.
