IN THE CARE OF
Whitten Monelison Chapel
John Edward Mays, 61, of Madison Heights, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at his residence.
Born on July 7, 1962 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late James E. Mays and Viney M. Mays. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Blake and Dalton Mays; and a brother, David Mays.
John was a dedicated worker who spent over 25 years at Counts and Dobyns, Inc. as a Pipelayer, tirelessly contributing his skills until his health necessitated a change. Even outside his formal employment, he found joy in hard work, often dedicating his weekends and free time to roofing jobs alongside his brother Jimmy. John's love for staying active and productive was evident to all who knew him.
However, amidst his dedication to work, John's deepest affection was reserved for his family. He cherished his family, especially his daughter, and held his relationships with his co-workers and extended family in high regard.
He is survived by his daughter, Madison Mays; brother, James “Jimmy” Mays (Cindy Bond); two sisters, Nancy Morris (Dale) and Linda Mays; special nephew and niece, Joe and Cindy Morris and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be conducted on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel officiated by Pastor Carlton Duck.
The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
