Joy Carpenter Steele

Joy Carpenter Steele, 87, of Madison Heights passed away Monday, October 18, 2021 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Walter Lee Steele, Jr. Born in Amherst County on December 29, 1933 she was a daughter of the late Malcom “John” Carpenter and Margaret Cash Carpenter. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe, was a member of the Sunday school class and a member of the WMU. In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by a brother Richard “Dan” Carpenter; and a granddaughter Stephanie Renee’ Bethel. She is survived by her children, Deborah Taylor, Rhonda Steele, Barry Steele and his wife Norma Jean and Edward Steele and his wife Judy all of Madison Heights; a sister, Janet Hollingsworth of Amherst; three grandchildren, Chad Steele, Cory Steele, and Allison Taylor; and three great-grandchildren, Parker, Rayne and Matthias Steele. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, October 22, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Monroe. Burial will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. In lieu of flowers please consider making donations to a charity of your choice.
