
Lorraine Dance Howard of Amherst, died on Tuesday morning, September 18, 2012 following a brief illness. She was born in Lynchburg, to the late William Ralph Dance and Mamie Sue Landrum Dance. She was the wife of Warren David Howard, who survives her. She was predeceased by her brothers, William Morgan Dance, II and wife, Faye; and Charles Lee Wood and wife, Swannie, and a daughter-in-law, Marjorie Proffitt Howard.
Additional survivors include: a daughter, Deborah Howard Hunt and husband, Michael of Madison Heights; sons, Morgan David Howard and wife Becky of Boonsboro, Ralph Leon Howard, Sr. and wife Linda of Forest, and Douglas Wayne Howard and wife Pat of Amherst; a granddaughter, Jennifer H. Bechtel and husband Jeffery and their two daughters, Alexis and Autumn of Forest; three grandsons, Dr. Ralph Leon “Lee” Howard, Jr. and wife, Tracy and their sons Logan and Trevor of Kernersville, NC, Michael Tyler Hunt of Madison Heights, and Cameron Taylor Hunt of Blacksburg. Other survivors include: sisters-in-law, Virginia H. Henley of Clinton, SC, Elizabeth H. Harris and Janie H. Hamilton of Richmond and Virginia A. Howard of Madison Heights and numerous nieces, ,nephews, cousins, and long-standing friends. She was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family
Lorraine was a secretary at the N & W Industries in Lynchburg and in the Chaplain’s Office at Central Virginia Training Center in Madison Heights. She and her husband owned and operated the Amherst Restaurant and Char-Del Restaurant. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lynchburg, attended Amherst Baptist Church, and was a former member of the Amherst Woman’s Club. She was an avid bridge player in several bridge clubs.
A celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. John P. Campbell officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the hospital staff in the Dialysis/Renal Unit at Lynchburg General Hospital for their care and concern during her illness.
