Born on September 19, 1940, in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Otha H. Wheeler and Virginia G. Wheeler. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Haywood Wheeler; and two sisters, Lucinda Burley-Urban and Naomi Wheeler.
A simple man, he loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing and spending time on Saturdays working in his shop. He was a retired self-employed Logger but had a passion for his business and truly loved his job. He loved caring for his family, was an animal lover and enjoyed selflessly helping others and putting his faith and trust in Jesus Christ. He was a longtime member of Clifford Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley L. Wheeler; two daughters, Kim Wheeler Morcom (Greg) and Cynthia Wheeler Bryant (Chris); grandchildren, Randall Morcom, Tiffany Sprinkle (Hunter), Caleb Bryant (Rachel); great-grandchildren, Keegan and Harper Sprinkle, Easton and Mason Bryant, Kayden Campbell; sisters Darnelle Mawyer and Romelda Falls (Ray), and brother, Thurston Wheeler (Shirley).

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Clifford Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald, Rev. Jeffrey Campbell and Rev. Clyde Mawyer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
