Born on May 24, 1936, in Monroe, Virginia, Robert was the son of the late Horance R. Floyd and Arva Garvin Floyd. He was the youngest of eight siblings and grew up with strong family values that guided him throughout his life.
Robert devoted 37 years of faithful service as a conductor with Norfolk Southern Railroad, retiring after a long and respected career. He was a proud member of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge and then the Clinton Masonic Lodge for over 50 years combined and was deeply involved with the Amherst Monroe Ruritans, where he valued fellowship and community service. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Robert found joy in gardening, cutting grass, and carefully maintaining his home. He especially loved spending time in the mountains, surrounded by nature, family, and animals; simple pleasures that brought him great peace and happiness.
Robert shared 67 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jeanne Paige Steppe Floyd. Together, they lived in Alexandria for 33 years before returning to Monroe, where they spent another 34 years building a life filled with memories, love, and laughter.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his daughter, Melinda Floyd; his son, Robert Ronald Floyd, Jr. and his wife, Nga; and a special niece, Linda Coley and her husband, Phil, along with extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations in Robert’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice or to any organization with which he was affiliated.
