Samuel Scott Riley, known affectionately as Sam Sam to his family, ACE of Spadez to his music community, and Sam I Am to his friends, passed away on February 20, 2024 from Aspergillosis pneumonia, at Lynchburg General Hospital, at the age of 37. He was born on March 11, 1986, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to his loving parents, Scott and Belynda Riley.
Sam was employed by Georgia Pacific – Big Island.
He had a deep love for his family, cherishing every moment spent with his wife, Colby and their son, Noah. Sam was an enthusiastic supporter of Noah's sports endeavors, finding immense joy in watching him play.
Sam had an undeniable love for music. Some of the ways he enjoyed music was writing and recording, playing and attending shows. He was a Redskins, UVA and Liberty University fan in all sports. He took the opportunity to attend as many live events as possible.
Always on the go, Sam loved dining out and savoring different cuisines. Sam never met a stranger, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he found solace in the Lord and his Bible. Sam is survived by his parents, wife, son, sister Megan Keen (Nathan), nephews Riley Keen and Connor Keen, and grandparents Gloria Fulcher and Joe Hedges Sr and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents John R. Fulcher and Dorothy Hedges.
Visitation to celebrate Sam’s life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 5 pm to 8 pm at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights, Virginia. The funeral service will take place on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 2 pm at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights, Virginia, with Pastor David Donahue officiating. Sam will be laid to rest at Briarwood Memorial Gardens in Amherst, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests considering donations to Noah Riley's future education fund, a tribute to Sam’s enduring love for his family and commitment to his son's future.
To the medical team at LGH on CTICU, the family will forever be grateful to all who provided care to Sam. You became our lifeline during the most difficult times in our lives. You should be very proud of your medical team who makes such difficult times a little easier through your kindness and compassion.
